The Sámi tradition carried here is not performed for guests. It is practiced by a shaman who has spent a lot of years inside this knowledge. When he lights the fire, beats the drum, or opens the ceremonial space, something real happens. You are invited to be part of it, not as a spectator, but as a participant.
This land has been Sámi ground for centuries. The rituals that take place here today are the same ones that were practiced long before tourism existed. That continuity is what makes Troll Havn different. You are not learning about a culture from the outside. You are stepping into it, feeling it, and taking something genuine home with you.

At Troll Havn, environmental care and safety are an important part of every activity. We have routines for waste sorting, fire prevention, safe boat use, and respect for nature, wildlife, and local regulations.
We want our guests to enjoy great experiences with as little impact on the surroundings as possible. We therefore ask everyone to follow our guidelines for tidiness, safety, and respect for nature during their stay.
Before each activity, guests receive the necessary information about safety, practical use, and important conditions in the area. For boat rental, guests are also informed about correct boat use, local rules, waterways, and safe navigation at sea.

Not at all. Every program is designed to be accessible for first-time participants. No background in shamanism, meditation is needed.
These are two distinct locations with different atmospheres:
Troll Museum is located in Tromsø city centre. Programs here are indoor experiences (2–3.5 hours), perfect if you're looking for something immersive without leaving the city.
Troll Havn is our sacred site in Vikran, 30 km from Tromsø, a secluded fjord and mountain setting where full-day and multi-day ceremonies take place. It's where the tradition feels most alive.
Most of our programs are designed for adults and older teenagers. As a general guide:
Troll Museum programs are suitable for ages 12+.
Troll Havn full-day and weekend programs аre adults only, as they involve extended ceremonies, fire rituals, and hiking
If you're travelling with children, please contact us in advance and we'll find the best option for your group.
It depends on the program:
Troll Museum (indoor): Comfortable, casual clothing is perfectly fine.
Troll Havn (outdoor, all-day or weekend): Dress in warm layers suitable for the season, waterproof outer layer, and sturdy hiking shoes. For the weekend retreat, moderate hiking ability is needed for trails of 3–5 km. There will be time sitting and standing around a fire outdoors, so warmth is essential.
Troll Havn is located in Vikran, approximately 30 km from Tromsø city centre (around 35–45 minutes by car). Transfer from Tromsø is included in the price of all Troll Havn programs. We will share the meeting point details with you upon booking.
Troll Museum is located in the heart of Tromsø city centre and is easy to reach
A drumming journey is a meditative experience guided by the rhythmic sound of a traditional Sámi drum. You simply close your eyes, follow the rhythm, and allow your mind to quieten. It is entirely safe, non-hypnotic, and requires no prior experience
Photography is generally welcome before and after ceremonies, and during informal parts of the program. However, we ask you to put phones away during the actual ritual and drumming journey out of respect for the practice and for fellow participants. Your shaman will let you know when photography is appropriate. If you are unsure, simply ask.
A warm meal is included in all full-day and weekend programs at Troll Havn. Meals are prepared with local seasonal ingredients. Vegetarian alternatives are available; simply let us know when booking. Troll Museum programs do not include a meal, though traditional Sámi coffee is part of the Coffee Ceremony experience.
The ceremonies are rooted in living Sámi tradition and deserve respectful engagement. You are welcome to observe or participate at whatever level feels right for you. Please arrive on time and avoid the use of phones during rituals. The shaman will guide you through everything and answer any questions you have.
Please note that attending any ceremony while under the influence of alcohol is not permitted. This applies to all programs at both locations. For the weekend retreat, we ask participants to refrain from alcohol and drugs throughout the entire program.
All programs are available for groups. Most programs accommodate 2 to 25 people; the Sacred Sites Weekend retreat is designed for smaller, more intimate groups of 2 to 12. We welcome private groups, corporate and MICE bookings, and educational visits. For larger groups or custom arrangements, please contact us directly and we will design a program to suit your needs.

All programs are offered in English as standard. Russian and Norwegian can be arranged on request; please let us know your preference when booking and we will do our best to accommodate you.

The various shamanic rituals and practices, including those involving shamans and trolls, are fascinating and captivating. I highly recommend this place; it's worth the 40-minute drive from Tromsø.
